FIC Alumni

FIC alumni have gone on to great careers since graduating and can attribute some of their success to involvement with the club. FIC activities cater to a wide spectrum of career paths including investment banking, corporate finance, tax accounting, audit, consulting, and business development.

Alex Vong - Lead Field Engineer, Schlumberger

Alex graduated in June 2010 and currently works as a Lead Field Engineer for Schlumberger. He was initially assigned to work in central Arkansas in the Fayettevile Shales where he worked for 2 months before going to Houston for a 9 week training course. Upon completion, he was loaned out to the North America Gulf Coast location, where he worked two month offshore on an appraisal well for Chevron. After returning to Arkansas in June 2011, he was promoted to lead engineer. He now runs jobs providing measurement service in the Mid-Continent Basin geo market.

Ali Bakhshandehfard - Senior Associate, PwC

Ali graduated in June 2009 as a Managerial Economics major and is currently a Senior Associate in Tax at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He previously was an intern at PwC and State Street. During his involvement with FIC, Ali served as club Treasurer in 2009.

Andrew Hung - Senior Trader, CAE Online

Andrew graduated in 2009 as a Managerial Economics major and is currently a Senior Trader at CAE Online. His prior internships include the US Department of Treasury, Americas Growth Capital, and McWong International. Andrew was one of the co-founders of FIC and served as Director.

Bo Peng - Patent Examiner, US Patent Office

Bo completed a Ph.D in Biomedical Engineering in 2011 and is currently a Patent Examiner with the US Patent Office. He primarily examines patent applications under the class of Magnetic Field Sensor, MRI, Tomographic Imaging, Ultrasound and Kinesitherapy, and Infrared and Visible Imaging. Bo also completed his undergraduate study at UC Davis as an Electrical Engineering major.

Chad Eatinger - Experienced Audit Associate, PwC

Chad graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Economics. He is currently an Experienced Audit Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers after working as an Experienced Audit Associate at MGO. Prior internship experiences include a Private Equity internship at Frisco Capital.

Charles Chen - Analyst, Tregaron Capital

Charles was the Founder and President of FIC and launched the club in 2007. Charles graduated with a degree in Managerial Economics in 2009 and went on to work at BrainPad, a strategy consulting firm in Tokyo, Japan. After finishing his Masters in Finance degree at Imperial College, London, Charles joined Tregaron Capital - a private equity firm in Palo Alto. Previously he interned at Woodside Capital Partners and DCA Partners. In his spare time Charles enjoys playing basketball and is captain of B-Dub Basketball.

David Do - Mobile Account Coordinator, AKQA

David was a member of FIC since its launch in 2007 and has since contributed as a member of FIC's Event and Marketing Committee. He graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, and contributes his success as a Marketing Director Intern to the experience gained in FIC. He moved on to work for Kaiser Permanente as a Community Event and Marketing Coordinator, and now holds a position as a Mobile Account Coordinator for the digital advertising agency, AKQA. David enjoys staying active with sports, especially soccer, tennis and snowboarding.

David Liu - Software Developer, Equilar

David graduated in 2009 as a Managerial Economics major with Mathematics minor and currently works at Equilar as a Software Developer. Previously within Equilar, David held positions within Marketing Automation and Salesforce Development and Administration. Prior to joining Equilar, David was a Marketing Coordinator at NetApp. During his time with FIC, David was a columnist for the club newsletter.

Dhinesh Ganapathiappan - Senior Associate, State Street Investment Analytics

Dhinesh is one of the founders of FIC and has been involved with the club since its inception as Vice President in 2007-2008 and Senior Vice President 2009-2010. After graduating in 2009 with a degree in Economics, Dhinesh worked in a Fund Accounting and Audit role at State Street specializing in International Markets. He is currently a Senior Associate with the State Street Investment Analytics division. Prior internships in the investments and venture capital fields include Global Heritage Fund, Worldsight, and Red Herring. Dhinesh is an active investor, trading stocks, options, and futures for over eight years.

Emil Khalikov - Analyst, UBS Investment Bank

Emil is currently an Analyst at UBS Investment Bank within the Global Energy Group. Emil graduated from UC Davis in 2010 and went on to complete a Masters in Commerce at the University of Virginia in 2011. Emil was previously an intern at GlobalVest Corp and Ackrell Capital.

Gary Chan - Associate, Charles River Associates

Gary is currently an Associate at an economic consulting firm, Charles River Associates.  He is part of the transfer pricing practice dealing with international tax and planning.  This includes performing analysis of client financials and risks, conducting industry research, and preparing documentation reports.  Previously, he interned at a hedge fund consulting firm, Albourne Partners, which advises institutional investors on hedge fund and private equity investments.  At Albourne Partners, he primarily researched the government-backed investment programs through discussions with hedge fund managers and publicly available literature.  Prior to Albourne Partners, he interned at Pacific Rim Partners, a boutique business development/investment bank.

Jaime Duque - Economist, Department of Labor

Jaime graduated from UC Davis in 2009 as an Economics major. He is currently an Economist at the Department of Labor in the District of Columbia.

Jamie Shah - Financial Data Analyst at Moody's Analytics

Jamie graduated in 2010 as a Managerial Economics major and is currently a Financial Data Analyst at Moody's Analytics. Apart from being involved with FIC, Jamie was Vice President of the South Asian Student Association. Prior to graduation, Jamie participated in the Sacramento Entrepreneurship Academy and completed two summer internships with Moody's Analytics.

Jean Pelissier - M&A, Alegro Capital

Jean graduated from UC Davis in 2010 with a double major in Economics and Mathematics. Upon graduation, he went on to the London School of Economics for a Masters in Finance. During his time with FIC, Jean served as a fund manager.

Jeremia Kimelman - Developer Advocate, Socialize Inc

Jeremia graduated from UC Davis with a degree in International Relations, focusing on the economic interactions amongst developed nations. He is currently the head of developer relations at a startup in San Francisco. Jeremia previously served as Vice-President of FIC, as well as a Fund Manager.

Karl Laughton - Senior Analyst Corporate Development Finance, Cisco Systems

Karl graduated in 2009 as an Economics major and was involved with FIC since 2008. Karl was previously a Financial Analyst Intern at Cisco Systems before going on to work full-time after graduation. Apart from FIC involvement, Karl served as President of Pi Kappa Alpha.

Kevin Yip - Assurance Associate, PwC

Kevin graduated from UC Davis in 2010 with a degree in Managerial Economics and a minor in Chinese. He joined the FIC in the winter of 2008 hoping to learn more about financial markets. He gained valuable experience at Morgan Stanley as a Wealth Management intern and Forex Capital Markets as a research analyst intern. Kevin has studied abroad in both Hong Kong and Shanghai, and in the future hopes to work in Asia. Since graduation Kevin has worked as an Assurance Associate with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Kevin enjoys Yelping new restaurants, traveling in Asia, and reading the NY Times.

Lauren Setar - Industry Analyst, IBISWorld

Lauren is a former Co-President of FIC and majored in Managerial Economics with a minor in Sociology-organizational studies. She joined FIC in the fall of 2009 and served as Co-President in 2011 after previously serving as Director. Lauren currently works as an Industry Analyst at the market research firm IBISWorld Inc. in Santa Monica, CA. Lauren has gained great experience as a Finance Intern at Morgan Stanley and as a Royalties Intern at Warner/Chappell Music. In addition to FIC, she also served as Treasurer of the UC Davis Tennis Club. In her spare time she loves playing tennis, going to concerts, shopping, listening to music, and going to the beach.

Magda Besser - Client Account Coordinator, Fisher Investments

Magda graduated from UC Davis in June of 2010 with a B.S. in Managerial Economics. She was one of the first members of FIC beginning her involvement in March 2008. During her 4 years at UC Davis Magda interned for Morgan Stanley Smith Barney performing entry level brokerage tasks and worked as a student supervisor at the UC Davis Coffee House. Upon graduating she obtained a job at Fisher Investments in their Private Client Group where she currently works full time.

Malek Helo - Transfer Pricing Associate, PwC

Malek graduated in 2009 as a Managerial Economics major. He was an active member of FIC from 2008-2009 and served on the leadership team as Director in 2009. Upon graduation, Malek joined PricewaterhouseCoopers as a Transfer Pricing Associate.

Meilin Xiang - Management Trainee, Standard Chartered

Meilin graduated in 2010 from Fudan University in Shanghai and was an exchange student at UC Davis where she joined FIC. Meilin currently works in Shanghai at Standard Chartered Bank as a Management Trainee.

Michael Keba - Business Analyst, Foresight Valuation Group

Michael is an Analyst at an intellectual property consulting firm in Palo Alto that specializes in the valuation and strategic management of intangible assets, as well as services for tech startups. He graduated in December 2010 with a degree in Managerial Economics and minor in Biology. While in school, he held summer internships at Domaine Chandon (a winery in the Napa Valley), UBS Wealth Management in San Francisco and a tech consulting firm called ITC Limited in Guangzhou, China. Michael served as FIC President in Fall 2010.

Mike Kaufman - Consultant, Accenture

Mike graduated from UC Davis in 2010 with a degree in Economics and Global and International Studies. He joined FIC in the winter of 2008 and served as the Treasurer. His previous work experiences include internships with Banc of America Investment Services, Inc., Morgan Stanley, and Deloitte Consulting. Upon graduation he worked in Audit at Armanino McKenna, and is currently a Consultant at Accenture.

Patricia Tompkins - Senior Trader, CAE Online

Patricia graduated from UC Davis in 2010 and currently works as a Senior Trader at CAE Online. She previously completed internships at Rominger West Winery, Apio, and Talley Vineyards.

Patrick Burton - Associate, KPMG Audit

Patrick is a 2011 graduate of UC Davis with a degree in Economics. Having taken accounting classes through the UC Davis cross enrollment program, he is an eligible CPA candidate and is in the process of passing the CPA exam. Patrick joined up with FIC in Winter 2010 and remained with the club until graduation. In fall of his Senior year, Patrick received offers from two of the Big 4 accounting Firms in the audit practice. Since he was eligible to finish his degree early, he took a quarter off from school to intern with his future firm, KPMG, in the public accounting winter busy season. Following his 10 week internship, he returned to UC Davis to finish up his degree requirements. Currently, Patrick works as an audit associate in the KPMG Los Angeles office.

Philip Krieg - Account Executive, Yelp

Phil graduated from UC Davis in 2010 as an Economics major and currently works as an Account Executive at Yelp. During his involvement with FIC, Phil served as Events Coordinator and helped plan FIC's annual career panel. Phil was previously a Management Trainee at Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Raj Setlur - Business Analyst, Wells Fargo

Raj Setlur graduated from UC Davis in March 2011 with a double major in Statistics and Economics. He joined FIC in January 2010, where he developed the skills to land an internship at Fireman's Fund Insurance Company as a Corporate Credit Analyst during the summer of 2010. Raj joined Wells Fargo in June 2011 as a Business Analyst, where he currently works.

Sam Young - PhD student in Economics, UCSD

Sam is a PhD student of Economics at UC San Diego. Before entering graduate school, Sam received his B.A. in Economics from UC Davis in 2008, and was a member of FIC from 2007-2008, where he was the newsletter editor. Sam previously took internships at Equilar, Bay Capital Partners, and IBM research before ultimately deciding that the academic path is best suited for his long-term interests. In his spare time, Sam enjoys watching movies and theater, and playing and watching ice hockey.

Shiv Sachdev - Investment Banking Analyst, RBC Capital Markets

Shiv Sachdev is a Global Investment Banking Analyst at RBC Capital Markets. Prior to working at RBC, Shiv worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers where he passed all of the CPA examinations. Shiv graduated in 2010 with highest honors and a departmental citation from UC Davis with a B.S. in Managerial Economics and minor in Psychology. During his time at UC Davis, he worked his way up through FIC's leadership roles and held titles as the Event Planning Coordinator and Vice President, before becoming President for his senior year.

Steven Pitchford - Tax Consultant, Deloitte

Steven is currently a Tax Consultant at Deloitte. He graduated from UC Davis in 2010 with a degree in Economics. Previously, he was an intern at UBS Wealth Management where he assisted in portfolio analysis of equities, mutual funds, and money markets. Steven was an FIC member from 2008-2009.

Thomas O'Conner - Consultant, FTI Consulting

Tom is an alumnus of FIC and was an active member of the club from 2009-2010. He graduated from UC Davis in March 2010 with a B.S. in Managerial Economics. Upon graduating, Tom began his career as a Research Analyst in the Forensic and Accounting Services group of LECG Consulting where he worked on mortgage litigation and business interruption projects. Tom joined FTI Consulting as a Consultant in March 2010 after FTI purchased his group from LECG. He has since worked primarily on forensic accounting investigations as well as insurance claim projects. In his free time, Tom is working towards getting his CPA license and he enjoys playing sports, watching movies, and reading.
